M.Tech Admissions 2018 In IITs/IISc/ISM Through GATE Score

Candidates, with a GATE 2018/2017/2016 qualify scorecard, can apply for M.Tech admissions 2018, i.e postgraduate (after graduation) degree in engineering/technology offered across prestigious IITs, IISc Bangalore and ISM Dhanbad.  M.Tech admissions 2018 aspirants with the valid GATE Score can check on this page for application dates for the IITs, ISM Dhanbad and IISc offering M.Tech programmes and other details.

Some IITs offer specialized Post Graduate programmes such as Master of Design (M.Des.), the Post Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (PGDIT), Master in Medical Science and Technology (MMST), Master of City Planning (MCP), Master of Arts (MA), Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law (PGDIPL), and the Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Operation & Management (PGDMOM). Some IITs offers M.S. (Research-Based) program, which is equivalent to M.Tech (course based) based on US Universities’ non-thesis and thesis masters programs respectively.


Admissions to masters programs in engineering are made using scores of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), while those to masters programs in science are made using scores of the Joint Admission Test to MSc (JAM). Candidate needs to apply for admission individually as there is no common application procedure to these institutes.

Each of the IIT which offers M.Tech admissions 2018 will individually release their application forms and also have different admission guidelines and eligibility criteria. However, Candidates must register for the GATE Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) to participate in the process of M.Tech admissions 2018 in IITs. Admission guidelines may include eligibility criteria of the institute that the candidate has to fulfill in order to be considered for admission.

Since the eligibility criteria may differ from institute to institute, so a candidate when applying to a particular institute, it is important that the candidate goes through the institute’s admission procedure and eligibility criteria thoroughly. The participating institutes of M.Tech admissions 2018 through COAP are IISC Bangalore, ISM Dhanbad, and all the IITs. Also, since GATE is an important Criteria for admission, AfterGraduation, suggest the candidates to do all the necessary homework before sitting in the GATE exam in February 2018.


GATE 2018 is scheduled to be conducted by IIT Guwahati on 3rd, 4th, 10th and 11th February 2018, in two sessions viz forenoon from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and afternoon from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm across the country. GATE is a competition Exam, require continuous passion, higher concentration, determination and hard work to succeed. A candidate who will qualify GATE 2018 would not only open the gateway for higher education courses Masters and Doctoral level (M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) in IISc/IITs/NITs but also can have the opportunity to get placed in PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings).

GATE COAP 2018

The IITs have started a Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) from 2017 to facilitate all the candidates applying for Post Graduate programmes, M.Tech at the IITs. The process is that eligible candidates must apply to each individual IIT as well as register at COAP. The admission offers given to the candidates will be displayed through COAP and candidates allowed to confirm the admission for one of the given offers. This eliminates duplication of offers and number of vacant seats if any will be known to all. GATE COAP 2018 will be open tentatively from mid-May 2018 month and will be held in five rounds.

The Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 lists twenty-three institutes located at Bhilai, Madras, Delhi, Dhanbad, Dharwad, Goa, Guwahati, Jammu, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Bombay, Roorkee, Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Mandi, Palghat, Patna, Ropar, Tirupati, and Varanasi. Each IIT is an autonomous institution, linked to the others through a common IIT Council, which oversees their administration. The Union HRD Minister is the ex-officio Chairperson of IIT Council.
