Books play a very major role in any examination. While preparing for GATE, finding the best book for preparation is a great challenge faced by any students. To ease the process of preparation, one must be thorough with the syllabus of his/her branch in GATE examination. By doing so, it will be easier for an aspirant to choose the best books to prepare GATE according to every subject.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level examination that is held as selection criteria for students who are interested in the admission for a postgraduate degree in Engineering – Master’s programs, direct Doctoral programs. Many Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) such as NTPC, ONGC, Airport Authority of India etc consider GATE scores as recruitment parameter.
GATE solely checks the comprehensive quality of those belonging to science and technology. It is conducted jointly by the IISc and seven IITs. The organizing institute for GATE 2019 is IIT Madras. The examination will be held on February 2, 3, 9 and 10 2019.
The level of competition in GATE is very high. Hard work and consistency in preparation along with best books to prepare GATE is highly needed to qualify this examination. With just 5 months left, aspirants need to have an efficient preparation with proper strategy and study plan.

GATE 2019 Examination Pattern
The pattern and syllabus of the paper differ for every branch (Subject). There is two type of pattern as mentioned below depending on the subject.
1. GATE paper for different branches with code AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PE, PI, TF and XE have 70% marks for their selective subject, 15% of marks for Engineering Mathematics and other 15% for General Aptitude. These are generally the subjects from the Engineering field.
2. The second type of pattern is for streams with no section for Engineering Mathematics. Papers with GATE codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, ST and XL has 85% marks for their selective subjects and 15% marks for General Aptitude.
The standard books recommended for Engineering Mathematics are :
- Higher Engineering Mathematics – S. Grewal.

It is advised to stick to less number of books so as to avoid ambiguity. There are several books available in the market with the collective concepts too. But the concepts must be made clear from the standard reference books so as to get a thorough knowledge of the topic. Notes and highlights must be made from these books because it will not be possible to go through the entire book during the time of revision.
Mock tests must be taken after completing any concept to recognize the weaker areas. These are concepts which need more attention and practice. Other than the mentioned best books to prepare GATE, online tutorials are also a great source of clearing doubts and strengthening the concepts.
