CAT 2017, IIM Lucknow Will Conduct This Year

Common Admission Test CAT 2017, one of the most challenging entrance exam will be conducting by IIM Lucknow this year, which is scheduled to take place in December 2017. CAT 2017 is the admission gateway to Indian 20 premium management schools – Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) and many other top B-schools across India for the two year full time management programmes of academic year 2018-19.

On June 21, 2017 IIM Lucknow has released a tender for advertising services for CAT 2017.  The tender has been signed by Convenor, CAT 2017, IIM Lucknow. However, the name of CAT 2017 Convenor is not mentioned in the notification. The notice states, “Indian Institute of Management Lucknow, the CAT Centre for CAT 2017, invites Bids in Two Bid System, from reputed vendors for providing Advertising Services for CAT 2017.”

Earlier to this, IIM Lucknow had conducted CAT in the year 2010. This is the second computer based CAT to be conducted by IIM Lucknow. Last year, IIM Bangalore had conducted the CAT 2016 exam. Last year the total number of application was 2,32,434 , highest in past seven years, out of which, 1,95,000 candidates appeared for the exam conducted in test centres across 136 cities of India.

Let us take a look at the expected timeline of the exam. As per previous years’ trend, it is likely that the official announcement of CAT 2017 will be made by the last Sunday of July 2017 i.e. July 30 and the CAT application process will start from first week of August.

CAT 2017 Tentative Timeline

It is expected that IIM Lucknow will release the pertinent information about the test such as Convenor name, CAT 2017 Schedule, exam pattern and other details by the second week of July, 2017. It is expected that the CAT exam pattern and structure may undergo changes based on the discretion of CAT 2017 Convenor and CAT Committee.

This time around, IIM Lucknow will introduce some changes in the level of difficulty as well as structure of CAT 2017. The new exam pattern is supposed to be quite student-friendly and will help aspirants to score better.

CAT 2017 Exam

CAT 2017, as the entrance test for admission to 20 IIMs and 100 plus B-Schools will be held in a computer-based mode. Candidates will be given three hours duration to complete the test. CAT 2017 will be carrying 100 questions from three sections, Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Aptitude (QA).

The questions are objective type carrying multiple choices with around 20 to 25 per cent non multiple choice questions. Each question carries three marks and there is negative marking scheme of one mark for each wrong answer. Non-MCQs do not have negative marking scheme for wrong answers.

CAT 2017 results will contain the list of candidates shortlisted (based on the minimum CAT cutoff scores) for second stage of selection which may include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI). Details of IIMs Conducting CAT

CAT is conducted by IIMs every year on rotational basis. Below is the year-wise detail of  IIMs conducting CAT and online testing agency since it became online in 2009.

Earlier, there was five year contract with Prometric for conducting the CAT which is exhausted in 2013. Now, Tata Consultancy Services is the CAT testing agency as 5 years contract which commenced in the year 2014, so TCS will be the online testing partner for CAT 2017.

Not only the amount of knowledge and practicing Mock tests daily is required To crack the CAT with good score but also your performance during those 180 minutes and of course your confidence level. If you want to achieve desired percentile then you will need to attempt good number of challenging questions. Be consistent with your preparation to fare well at the main event. Make reading a habit, prefer authentic books, dedicate more time to quant section as it is the most scoring part and if you are pretty accurate then you will surely have edge over the other competitors.
