Mechanical Engineering is the branch of engineering that involves the design, production and operation of machinery. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2019 Exam will be held online on February 2, 3, 9 and 10, 2019 for 24 papers by IIT Madras. Candidates appearing for GATE 2019 Mechanical Engineering (ME) must know proper syllabus, exam pattern and cut off of the subject for better GATE Score.

GATE 2019 Mechanical Engineering Syllabus

The first step the students need to take is to collect the correct GATE 2019 Mechanical syllabus. This step will ensure to prepare only those subjects from which the questions would be asked in the GATE exam. The same will prevent unnecessary time wastage by studying non-important topics.

Mark the Subjects and topic according to weightage and prepare with more weightage subjects or something that interest you. This requires a good checking of the GATE 2019 Syllabus for Mechanical Engineering to know in detail the topics that need to be covered. You can plan your preparation after segregation of the topics into difficult, easy and to be learnt. The topics you are strong in need to be revised while the others require a good effort. GATE 2019 Mechanical Engineering Exam Pattern

First of all, make a clear understanding of the GATE exam pattern. GATE exam is online and the questions asked are objective type. A candidate can appear in only one out of 24 papers. Each paper consists of 100 marks with a total 65 total number of questions. Candidates will have a time duration of 3 hours.

The paper has 2 type of questions namely, MCQs (multiple choice questions)  and numeric types questions which are to be answered on virtual keyboard via mouse. The marks awarded for both typed question can be 1 or 2 depending upon the score a question carries. For negative marking, it is 1/3 for 1 marker and 2/3 for 2 marker multiple choice questions. No negative marking is there for numeric type questions. There are 3 sections.

1) Mechanical Engineering (70%)

2) Aptitude (15%)

3) Engineering Mathematics (15%)

The aptitude problems are based on basic math and English skills and are very easy. They do not require much preparation. The course for the Mathematics portion is vast but the questions asked are relatively easy. It would be better to cover all the topics as it is a high scoring portion. Most questions are short and based on direct application of formulae. The most important part is Mechanical Engineering. This section is comparatively difficult and requires sincere effort.

GATE Qualifying Cutoff for Mechanical Engineering

The cutoff trends to qualify the mechanical engineering examination of GATE is provided below for reference. To qualify the examination, the candidates will have to meet the GATE cutoff marks which is different as per the category.
