IIM Bangalore for their Massive Open Online Course lauded by President of India. The contribution of IIM Bangalore for making management education accessible to all through Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) has been honored by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, President of India, during the launch of the Government’s SWAYAM platform at Vignan Bhavan, in New Delhi on July 9.
IIMB becomes first Indian management school to partner with edX – a non-profit online initiative by MIT and Harvard to roll out free Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
IIM Bangalore is also the National Coordinator for management education on SWAYAM and has completed five MOOCs on the SWAYAM platform to date.
Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar was present when President Mukherjee presented the award to Prof. P.D. Jose, Chairperson, IIMB Digital Learning, who accepted the award on behalf of IIM Bangalore.
The award function was part of the National Convention on Digital Initiatives for Higher Education organized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, to celebrate teaching and learning.
The convention witnessed the launch of SWAYAM, SWAYAM Prabha and the National Academy Depository – digital initiatives aimed at improving access to high quality education in India.

IIMB Director Prof. G. Raghuram said, “MOOCs offers multi-fold benefits to the higher education scenario in India – wider access, enriched pedagogy and capacity building for teachers and learners. IIMB is committed to offering high-quality management education MOOCs on the SWAYAM platform and will strive to become a knowledge hub for digital learning in India.”
If we have to achieve our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India’ we have to upgrade the skill of the vast majority of workers and we have to provide support to all those people who are struggling at it. The Institute aims to achieve this goal by offering Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) starting from July 2015 through edX, a not-for-profit online initiative of Harvard and MIT that offers online courses from the world’s best universities and organisations.
The IIMBx MOOCs Programme is IIMB’s digital learning gateway and has offered MOOCs to more than 5 lakh global learners in various core and specialized management subjects. IIMBx also works in the area of capacity building for management educational institutions in India to implement the concept of blended learning using MOOCs. Since 2015, IIMBx has trained more than 750 management teachers in blended learning.
