Admission Process For MBA Programme in IITs
Candidates are shortlisted by various IITs for admission on the basis of CAT score unlike before, when the IITs had their own entrance test, however, from 2011 onwards, the score of CAT exam for admission is considered in the MBA programme.
One should have a four-year graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India to be eligible to apply for MBA. Apart from the score in CAT, they also took into account the scores of further rounds such as GD and PI.
Though the weightage distribution may sometimes vary on the Institutes, the most common weightpage pattern on the basis of marks scored in CAT, GD, PI etc is :
- CAT Percentile – 65 % weightage
- Group Discussion – 10 % weightage
- Personal Interview – 20 % weightage
- Work experience – 5 % weightage

1. Department of Management Studies (DMS) IIT Delhi
The Department of Management Studies at IIT Delhi is one of the best institutes for MBA. It holds a position in the Top 10 B-schools in India. A two-year full-time MBA programme and a special program in Telecommunication Systems Management (MBA-Telecom) is offered by IIT Delhi. For MBA in IIT Delhi, a candidate must have a four-year bachelor degree with minimum 60 % aggregate (6.0 CGPA).
There are a total of 115 seats and it is distributed among Management and Telecommunication Management. In management, there are 91 seats and 24 in Telecommunication management. The tuition fee is Rs. 8 Lacs for the entire MBA Full-Time Programme for Indian citizen. It is payable in equal instalments (4 Semesters).
Many industrial giants come for placement purpose such as GE, Shell, Airtel, American Express, Bosch Ltd, Deloitte, Amazon, Google, etc. The highest package offered as of date is Rs. 26.00 lakhs and the average is 16.54 lakhs.

2. Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management IIT Bombay (SJMSoM)
Admission in a Two-Year Full-time Master of Management (M.Mgt) Program is offered by Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSoM) at IIT Bombay. In the M.Mgt program, there are a total of 120 seats. To be eligible to apply for M.Mgt in SJMSoM, a candidate is required to have all the eligibility criteria as described above. The tuition fee for the Masters of Management program is 8.30 lakh. IITB has an impressive placements record that is 100% placement record and an average placement salary of 17.62 LPA.
3. Indian Institute of Technology – Kharagpur (IIT KGP)
VGSoM (Vinod Gupta School of Management) was the first management school in any IIT in the country. The total tuition fee of MBA is Rs 3.36 lakh per annum, i.e. Rs. 6.72 lakhs for the entire PG course at IIT Kharagpur. The average salary for the year 2018 was Rs. 15.61 LPA. Vinod Gupta School of Management has a position at 7th spot for Management category for the 2nd consecutive year as per NIRF Ranking.
4. Indian Institute of Technology – Madras (IITM)
At IIT Madras, the management program is run by the Department of Management Studies (DoMS). Standard Master of business administration degree is offered by IITM with a seat total of 68. The tuition fee for the management program is INR 7 lakh. The average salary is 11 LPA of an IITM MBA graduate.
5. Indian Institute of Technology – Roorkee
A two-year full-time MBA Program is offered by The Department of Management Studies in IIT Roorkee. IIT Roorkee offers a total of 95 number of seats for the management programme. The tuition fees for MBA is Rs. 8 lakh.
It also offers dual specialization in the areas such as Information Technology, Finance, Marketing, Operations and Human Resource management. 9.18 LPA is the average package for placed students from IIT Roorkee MBA program
6. Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) – Dhanbad
It is the most recent addition to offer a management program under its Department of Management Studies. A Two-Year MBA Programme with specializations offered in Marketing, Finance, Human Resource and Systems and Operations Management is offered at IIT, Dhanbad. There are a total of 62 seats offered for MBA programme. The tuition fee for the MBA program is Rs. 3.4 lakhs. The average salary package offered is Rs. 8.00 LPA.
7. Indian Institute of Technology – Kanpur, (DIME-IIT Kanpur)
Department of Industrial and Management Engineering (DIME), IIT Kanpur offers highly affordable two Year MBA programme. Students pursuing MBA from IIT Kanpur are offered specialization in Manufacturing Management and Service Management. The two fee for 2-year MBA programme is Rs 2.91 Lakh.
