There is an ongoing problem in determining which is the top MBA in Australia or the best Australian MBA and how the criteria for assessment relates to a prospective student’s particular requirements in pursuing the postgraduate business studies. A total of 17 business schools of Australia featured in QS’s latest guide for world’s best institutions; the QS Global 250 Business Schools Report 2017.
The report assesses top business schools for their full-time MBA programs’ global reputations in two parameters – Employability and Research Excellence. Report results are based on surveys of 12,125 MBA employers and 8,376 academics in the fields of business and management.
An MBA program’s reputation for research excellence is synonymous to its academic strength and therefore underpins its capacity for quality teaching and thought leadership. For this reason, it’s certainly worth the consideration of any prospective MBA student conducting their due diligence when researching schools and programs of interest, alongside their investigation into a program’s reputation for employability.

As can be seen in the list above, Melbourne Business School (MBS) and Sydney’s Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) hold the top two places in each indicator. The full-time MBA programs at the Australian National University, Monash Business School and RMIT University place higher for research excellence than for employability this time around. While two of these – UTS Business School and UQ Business School – place higher for employability than for research excellence, on this analysis.
There are also three options for an MBA in Australia which feature in a single top 10 table. Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM), Sydney Business School and Curtin University all rank among Australia’s 10 top business schools for employability, but don’t quite make Australia’s top 10 for research excellence this year. Conversely, UWA Business School, Adelaide Business School and QUT Graduate School of Business all feature solely in Australia’s research excellence top 10.
