QS India University Rankings 2020: The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) dominate the QS India University Rankings 2020 list, with 7 IITs figuring in the top ten rankings. QS has published separate ranking for top Indian Institutions second edition on Tuesday. The QS India University rankings include public, private, higher education or deemed Universities.
According to the second edition of QS India University Rankings released on Tuesday, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) has again emerged as the best Higher Education Institute in India.
IIT Bombay among six other IITs placed among the top ten institutions in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) India University Rankings 2020. The other Indian Institutes of Technology placed in the top 10 list are IIT Delhi (IITD) at number 3, IIT Madras (IITM) at number 4, IIT Kharagpur (IIT-KGP) at number 5, IIT Kanpur (IITK) at number 6, IIT Roorkee (IITR) at number 9 and IIT Guwahati (IITG) at number 10.
The other 3 Institutes placed in the top position are Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore at number 2, the University of Hyderabad at number 8 and the University of Delhi at number 7.

Compared to last year, IIT Delhi has improved its position by 1 rank to acquire the third rank, while the IIT Madras has fallen one place to stand at fourth place on the QS India University Rankings list this year. Similarly, University of Delhi has improved its position by one place to stand at number 7, while the University of Hyderabad has lost one place and ranked at number 8.
In the National Institutional Rankings Framework (NIRF) list 2019, released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development earlier this year, Indian Institute of Technology Madras had topped the list of higher education institutes in the overall category.
As per QS India University Rankings 2020, the University of Calcutta and Jadavpur University have secured first & second positions, respectively, among all state-run Universities in India and positioned at ranked 11 and 12 respectively in the list.

The British higher education analysts QS has released the second edition of the standalone rankings for India’s higher education institutions on the basis eight parameters which have different weightage. The eight parameters with their weightage to make the overall ranking list for Indian University are –
- Academic Reputation (30%)
- Employer Reputation (20%)
- Faculty Student Ratio (20%)
- The proportion of Staff with PhD (10%)
- Papers per faculty from Scopus database (10%)
- Citation per Paper (5%)
- International Faculty (2.5%), and
- International Students (2.5%).
