The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a national level management entrance test for admission to postgraduate management programmes offered by the IIMs and other top B-schools of India. CAT 2018 will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2018. As per a note posted on the official website – iimcat.ac.in, the detailed notification for the CAT 2018 is likely to be released in July / August 2018.
CAT is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management every year on a rotational basis. CAT 2018 is a management entrance exam for admission into 20 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and several other top B Schools across the country for the academic year 2019-20.
Candidates aspiring admissions for management programme must start preparing for the Common Admission Test 2018 and revisit the official website to stay up to date with the exam schedule.
Based on the CAT scores, students are selected for the group discussion and personal interview rounds of the management programmes, including PGP, PGDM, PGPEM, EPGP, PGPBM, PGPEX, at various IIMs across the country. The results for the CAT are usually released on the second week of January. All IIMs put together have approximately 11,000 seats.

CAT 2018 Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must fulfil the following eligibility criteria to appear for CAT 2018. Given below are the eligibility criteria for CAT Exam.
- The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons With Disability (PWD) categories], awarded by any recognized University or educational institution or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
- Completed professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA) with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA
- Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. However, it may be noted that such candidates, if selected need to submit a certificate stating that they have completed all the requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate.
- Percentage obtained in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated on the basis of practice followed by the concerned university or institution.

CAT 2018 Exam Pattern
CAT 2018 exam will be conducted in a fully Computer Based Test mode. It will be divided into 3 sections viz:
- Quantitative Aptitude
- Data interpretation and logical reasoning
- Verbal comprehension and learning.
For every correct answer, an aspirant will earn 3 marks whereas every incorrect answer one marks will be deducted but for Non-MCQ type questions no marks will be deducted.

Note: It should be noted that there is no negative marking for non-MCQs i.e. TITA questions. Also, there is no penalty for unattempted questions.

CAT 2017 Highlights
Last year, the notification was released in July and IIM Lucknow had conducted CAT 2017. In 2017, the registration had started on August 9. The exam fees are Rs 900 for SC, ST and PwD and Rs 1800 for general category.
CAT 2017 saw 2,31,000 applicants seeing a small dip from the previous year. While the overall number of applications decreased, however, there was an increase of 1.16 percent in female applicants (78,009). Moreover, the number of candidates under the transgender category had also gone up with 31 applications; it was 22 last year.
