The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) releases notification for Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2018 to recruit approximately 588 including 18 PH(LDCP‐15 & HI‐03) posts in engineering positions in various departments of the central government. The last date to submit the online applications is October 23, 2017, until 6 pm and the online process for UPSC ESE 2018 begun on September 27, 2017.
UPSC Engineering Service Exam (ESE) also known as Indian Engineering Services (IES) Exam is the most sought after and prestigious examination for the engineering graduates. The IES Preliminary Exam 2018 will be conducted on January 7, 2018 (Sunday) in 42 cities across the country and all the technical graduate candidates who will clear the preliminary exam will be shortlisted to appear in IES Mains Exam, which will be conducted on July 01, 2018.

UPSC IES 2018 Exam Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who aspire to appear for the UPSC IES 2018 Exam on Jan. 07, 2018 shall fulfil the requisite eligibility criteria for the exam. The eligibility criteria for the UPSC IES 2018 Exam are set by the Commission in terms of age limit allowed and the minimum requisite educational qualifications making them eligible to take the prestigious UPSC IES 2018 Examination.
Age Limit
As far as the UPSC IES 2018 Exam age limit criteria is concerned, candidates whose age lie between 21 years to 30 years in the exam year are eligible by UPSC. Also, age limit relaxation for UPSC IES 2018 Exam is allowed to certain categories of candidates as per government norms.
- Government servants will be given a 5-year relaxation in upper age limit.
- For SC/ST candidates 5 years and for OBC candidates 3 years relaxation will be provided.
- The candidate who is found to be a subject of Jammu Kashmir during the period from 1st January 1980 to 31st December 1989 will also be provided with an age relaxation of 5 years.
- Ex-Serviceman will be offered an age relaxation of 5 years.
- Physically Handicapped (PH) and disabled will be given an age relaxation of 10 years.

Education Qualification
- Candidates who have graduated in the Engineering discipline from a recognized University or Institute by the Government of India.
- Candidates who have completed their M.Sc in subjects like Wireless Communications like Radio Technology, Radio Physics and Electronics are also eligible to apply for the IES 2018 Exam. Though, such candidates with non-engineering but degrees in science disciplines have access to be considered only for certain posts under the UPSC IES recruitment exam.
Engineering Services 2018 Exam fee
Candidates (excepting female/SC/ST/ PH who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs 200.
Engineering Services 2018 Exam Pattern
IES 2018 exam basically includes Objective Type General Studies & Engineering Discipline in the Prelims Exam while in Mains Examination it will consist of two conventional paper of Engineering Discipline. Prelims will consist of two papers of 200 marks and 300 marks. Similarly, Mains also comprise of two papers of 300 marks each. The candidates who’ll qualify in the preliminary test will be eligible for the IES Main Exam and those who clear the Mains will be further called for next process of Personality Test.
The medium of Prelims exam paper will be English only.
Negative Marking – 1/3 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty for the wrong anser in the Prelims exam.

Engineering Services 2018 Selection Procedure
IES 2018 Selection Procedure comprises of three staged processes. Stage 1st is known as Preliminary Examination followed by Stage 2 i.e. Mains Examination and at last Stage 3 is conducted called the Personality Test/Interview. The candidates who qualify stage I are eligible for the Stage II process. And the score obtained in the Mains examination will determine the qualification of students for the personality test on the basis of merit list. The final result will be declared after the analysis of marks obtained in the final round or an aggregate of all the three rounds will be judged to form the final merit list.
