HRD Minister Ramesh Nishank Pokhriyal on Thursday announced the NIRF Rankings 2020 listing the top institutes and universities in India this year. The NIRF rankings are usually announced in April but were delayed this year due to the Covid-19 crisis. This is the NIRF rankings fifth edition included Dental colleges for first time.
The Education minister went live from his Twitter handle with Minister of State Sanjay Dhotre and AICTE Chairman Anil Saharsrabudhe releases the NIRF Rankings 2020 in 10 categories which included Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture, Law and Dental.
IIT Madras emerged as topper in the overall category of NIRF Rankings 2020 and the second and third spots were taken by IISc Bengaluru and IIT Delhi.
HRD minister in his live webinar said “I request the UGC Chairman to make it compulsory for all the universities to participate in the NIRF Rankings from next year.” India has over 45,000 degree colleges, over 1000 universities.
For the NIRF rankings, the Indian institutes and universities are judged on the basis of certain predetermined factors — Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), Peer Perception. Each of these parametres includes sub-parametres as well.
