A career in PSUs, Public Sector Undertakings, is highly coveted among the Engineering graduates. You must be aware that your PSU career dreams can turn into reality if you are able to crack GATE 2017 with a good score. Some of the PSUs like ONGC, BHEL, HPCL, WBSEDCL, PowerGrid, MDL, etc. have annouced recruitments through GATE 2017 scores.
While the different PSUs release their recruitment notification separately, a candidate must have a valid GATE score card to apply to all of them. The application process for a majority of the PSUs is online.
Public Sector Undertaking (PSU)
PSU is a Government owned corporation or a company in which Central or State Government have more than 51% share. Basically these Government companies run like private companies and share profits to Government. A career with PSU requires, a strong and in-depth technical knowledge and understanding of core engineering Principals.
GATE is one such exam, where ones technical and general aptitude is tested. Today, number of jobs are available for a fresh graduate in engineering in major PSUs in India. The list includes IOCL, BHEL, NTPC, BPCL and likes.
All these Public sector companies recruit Engineer Trainee (ET) based on the GATE scores. Candidates who apply to PSUs would be shortlisted on the basis of their respective GATE score. The shortlisted candidates then have to appear for a group discussion round and personal interview round for assessment of different facets of knowledge. Based on their performance in the GD and PI, the final selection of the candidate would be done.

ONGC, NALCO, EdCIL India, AAI, NHPC, CEL, BNPM, Coal India Ltd, Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd, GSECL, KRIBHCO, BAARC: OCES/ DGFS, THDC India Ltd, OPGC Ltd, IRCON International Ltd, National Textile Corporation, Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd (MRVC Ltd) and many more have to disclosed their deadlines and number of seats available for various streams.
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2017 will be conducted by IIT Roorkee on February 4, 5, 11 and 12 for the PG admissions to Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture and Science programmes offered at the IITs, NITs and other leading centrally funded institutes in addition to many state universities as well as private universities.

PSU Recruitment through GATE commenced in 2012 and since then, the number of recruiting companies is steadily increasing. In Year 2015, 27 plus companies have recruited through GATE 2015, whereas the number grew to more than 40 in year 2016.
