Believe In Yourself
”You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You are on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who will decide where to go.”— DR. SEUSS.
You are the best person to decide what works for you. So chart your own preparation plan and schedule in such a way that suits your style.
Analyze CSE GATE 2019 Syllabus and Weightage of Each Topic
Candidate should refer the official CS-IT syllabus and analyze the exam pattern using previous years papers. As all the subjects don’t have equal marks, few subjects require more efforts than others. Make a priority list of subjects based on marks on preferences given it in previous exams. Marks distribution of the subject will help you prioritize and allocate preparation time to different subjects. Note that if the allocation is not prepared beforehand then one can end up choosing random topics which may lead to confusion in the end.
Understand the CSE GATE 2019 Pattern
First of all, make a clear understanding of the GATE exam. GATE 2019 exam is online and the questions asked are objective type. There are two types of questions: multiple choice and numerical answer type. There are 3 sections.
1) Computer Science Engineering (70%)
2) General Aptitude (15%)
3) Engineering Mathematics (15%)
General aptitude and engineering maths carry 30% of the total marks and hence these are the most important sections of GATE syllabus.

Study Plan and Preparation Strategy
Make a list of topics which needs to be studied based on a number of questions which have appeared on the topic in the previous GATE exams. Identify topics which have fetched more marks and give more importance to them. Understand the concept and practice questions based upon it. Most of the questions in GATE exam 2019 are conceptual & numerical, so you must try to improve your solving ability & time management to score a good rank.
Practise GATE Sample Papers and Mock Test
Go through previous years’ GATE papers, to get an idea about the types of frequently asked questions. Both online and offline mock test should be attempted by the students. Practising these tests help in analyzing your mistakes and also increases the speed to take the assessment.
Taking a mock test will help you adapt to the online pattern as this year you will have to use a virtual calculator enabled in their test logins. 80% of the GATE questions may not require the virtual calculator, so use the calculator only when its really required for complex calculations.
Through GATE mock tests, candidates get to learn such things as time management, handling exam pressure, and deciding which questions to tackle first and which to keep for later.
CSE GATE 2019 Exam Revision Plan
Make sure at least a month is kept for exhaustive thorough revision. Thorough studying any topic, keep making small notes to be used while revision before GATE 2019 exam. Not to Miss Guidelines during Preparation
- Preparation in the best manner that is suited to you. Scheduling and planning are very important.
- Prepare short notes on all topics during your study for GATE. This can be used for revision in the last days of GATE preparation.
- Ensure that you cover Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude in the course of your preparation. Preparing for them and doing them well will ensure a good score.
Cracking GATE examination requires proper study strategy, determination and focus. It requires constant efforts towards each subject in clearing up the basic concepts to obtain good marks. Also, keep in mind that GATE exam is much easy than other exams. This is a single exam in India in which around 15 % of students get success.
