IIT Bombay and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore have made the cut among top 10 Universities, according to the QS BRICS University Rankings 2019, one of the global prestigious rankings. Some 403 Universities from BRICS Nations – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa region have been observed for the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking this year’s which is up from 300 Universities last year.
IISC and IIT Bombay have grabbed the top two ranks in the QS India University Rankings 2019. QS BRICS University Rankings 2019 feature the top universities and academic institutions from BRICS Nations.
Chinese universities again dominate this year, with Tsinghua University at the top of the ranking. Seven of the top 10 universities this year are based in mainland China. Elsewhere, Lomonosov Moscow State University is the best institution in Russia, ranked sixth overall, while the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) is the best in India ranked eight in rankings.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has up by 1 position from its 2018 ranking and secured the eight position while the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore maintained the same ranking of 2018 and at position 10 in the recent QS BRICS University Rankings 2019.
The British higher education marketing company Quacquarelli Symonds has made these rankings and it has increased the number of universities in the ranking to 400, a rise of 100 from the 2018 edition. The methodology for BRICS was based on eight indicators — academic and employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, papers per faculty, citations per paper, staff with Ph.D., a proportion of international faculty and proportion of international students.

In the top 20 overall ranking, IIT-Madras is at 17th position and IIT-Delhi at 18th. China is also home to 113 of the 400 BRICS universities, while Russia has 101, Brazil 90, India 86 and South Africa with only 13 institute.
Tezpur University (TU) said it has been ranked 146th among 400 universities in 2019 BRICS ranking. Earlier in 2018 rankings, TU was ranked 171-180th position.
OP Jindal Global University (JGU) in Haryana’s Sonepat district is the youngest Indian varsity to be ranked in the ‘QS BRICS University Rankings 2019’ out of the top Indian varsities. JGU, ranked in the 301 to 350 bracket, a place among the top three per cent of the universities in the BRICS region.
