The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2018 will be conducted by the IIT Guwahati (Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, IITG). The GATE 2018 exam will be held on Saturday –Sunday, February 3-4 and February 10-11, 2018. The GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) website will open the enrollment, application filling and application submission on September 1, 2017.
Prof. G. Pugazhenthi, a Chemical Engineering professor in IIT Guwahati since July 2015 will be the Chairman for GATE 2018 organizing committee. The official notification is expected to release by next month. Earlier, IIT Guwahati had conducted the GATE in 2010.
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is considered to be the standard examination conducted not only for post graduation admissions in engineering at all IITs, NITs and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) but also to open the gates for lucrative opportunities in several public sector enterprises and research organizations. Candidates on qualifying GATE, get a financial aid in the form of UGC scholarship.
From 2012, the examination has also been used by the PSUs in their recruitment process. The number of PSUs using the GATE score has steadily increased. GATE 2016 score was also used for recruitment of positions in the Cabinet Secretariat in the Government of India. Students interested in management can swing in the management line by pursuing a PG Diploma of 2 years in Industrial Engineering. Some institutes in India also offer admissions in the Post Graduate Programmes on the basis of GATE score.

The applicants who have already completed their qualifying examination in 2018 or before have to submit the degree certificate/ provisional certificate. The appearing applicants are required to submit a certificate from the institute.

GATE 2018 Application Fees
The application fee is Rs 750 for women aspirants, Rs 750 for SC/ST/PwD category candidates and Rs 1500 for all other candidates. For International candidates application fee is $50.

GATE 2017
GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is one of the popular examinations of the country which is regulated jointly by 7 IITs (Guwahati, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Mumbai, Kanpur, Delhi and Chennai) and IISC on rotation. In 2017, the entrance examination conducting body was IIT Roorkee, which had introduced a new section in one of the question papers and had also conducted the exam for International candidates.
Every year, nearly 9 Lakh candidates appear for the exam, making it one of the most sought-after and competitive exam in the country. Last year the qualification percentage was a mere 16%. The number was not an improvement from 2015 when only 15% candidates qualified.
Till last year GATE exam was conducted for 23 subjects and a student could appear in only one subject paper which was related to the discipline of their qualifying degree. All the papers have some general aptitude questions apart from the subject-specific questions which test a student’s language and analytical abilities.
