Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) are among the world’s top 200 institutions in producing highly employable graduates, while the University of Delhi is the country’s leading provider of highly successful alumni, according to the latest edition of QS Graduate Employability Rankings released on this Monday night. IIT Delhi and Bombay have been ranked in the 191-200 category globally.
However, rankings of both the premier institutes have declined from the year 2017. IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay, which were both ranked 101-150 in Graduate Employability for 2017, dropped to 191-200 for 2018.
Besides being ranked in the 201st-250th category, the University of Delhi also figures in the top league of institutions of the world for QS’s Alumni Outcomes indicator, which indicates how successful a university is at producing “highly achieving graduates”. The Delhi University has scored 96.6 out of 100 on alumni outcome, is the 21st best score in the world.
The University of Mumbai ranked in the 201-250 category globally also scored an impressive 85 out of 100 in QS’s Alumni Outcomes indicator. It is ranked alongside Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings.
However, it was IIT Kharagpur that fell the most on the Graduate Employability Ranking for 2018, dropping from 81-90 position for 2017 to the 251-300 position.

Overall, Stanford University was ranked number one in the graduate employability rankings followed by the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) and Harvard University. India has a total of eight institutions in the rankings. Apart from IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and DU, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, University of Mumbai, Indian Institute of Science also features in the rankings. Competing with the leading institutions from the US and UK are the University of Sydney (4th) and University of Melbourne (7th). The United States is home to five of the world’s top 10 universities for student employability. Asia’s leading university is Tsinghua University (10th), based on its high Employer Reputation score and the outstanding nexus of employer-student connections.

Ben Sister, Research Director, QS, said in a press release shared on Monday that, “These results indicate that universities cannot rely on reputation alone. They also need to ensure that they are committed to innovative teaching methods, proactively forge relationships with businesses, and provide numerous opportunities for students to meet potential future employers.”
The parameters used to rank universities included unique scores assigned to their academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty and international students at the university.
