GATE 2021 Information Brochure Released: Check GATE 2021 Exam Schedule, Eligibility Criteria and Application Process

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, GATE 2021 official notification has been released by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB), the coordinator of the GATE 2021. All the GATE 2021 aspirants can check the GATE 2021 Information brochure, Examination Schedule, Revised Eligibility Criteria, application process in the below article.

As per the GATE 2021 Information brochure, GATE 2021 examination will be conducted over six days in twelve sessions on February 5th, 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th and 14th. The online application process for GATE 2021 through GATE 2021 website link (GOAPS) will begin from September 14 and the last date to apply for the same is September 30. Also, applicants will be given a chance to make the modification to their submitted application form.


Further, GATE 2021 score card will remain valid for three years from the date of announcement of GATE 2021 results. It is also used by some Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for their recruitment and by several other Universities in India and abroad for post-graduate Engineering programmes admissions.

GATE 2021 Papers

This year 2 new Subjects are added to the list of 25 exams.

  • ES (Environmental Science and Engineering)
  • XH (Humanities and Social Sciences) in Economics/English/Linguistics/Philosophy/Psychology/ Sociology.

Now, the exam will be conducted for 27 subjects including Aerospace engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Agricultural Engineering, Architecture and Planning, Civil Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering among other subjects. But, a candidate is allowed to appear in only one paper in any one session.

GATE 2021 Eligibility Criteria

This year the eligibility criteria to appear for GATE 2021 is relaxed. Now, a candidate who is currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts is eligible for appearing GATE 2021 exam.

Age limit criteria: There is NO age limit to appear for GATE 2021.

How to Apply for GATE 2021?

In order to apply online, all the candidates need to follow the below mentioned steps:

  • Go to the website of GOAPS: appsgate.iitb.ac.in
  • Click on “New Registration” and enter all the basic details
  • Login using your GOAPS Enrolment ID and Password
  • Upload photograph, signature and other documents and category certificate (SC / ST /PwD) and / or Dyslexic certificate as applicable.
  • Pay the application fee through any of the electronic payment modes
  • Click on submit.

GATE 2021 Exam Scheme

  • The exam will be Online computer-based test (CBT) multiple-choice questions (MCQ).
  • Number of questions: 65
  • Total marks: 100
  • Total time: 3 hours. At the end of the stipulated time (3-hours), the computer screen will automatically close the examination inhibiting any further action.
  • The exam consists of two sections. The paper will contain questions on general aptitude (15 marks), engineering mathematics (15 marks) and core engineering area of the candidate.

About GATE Exam

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee).

The exam is a gateway for the admissions into post-graduate Engineering programmes in IISc/IITs and other Institutes of higher education with financial assistance provided by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and other government agencies. This exam primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology along with Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics.
