Indian Institute of Management Bangalore emerged as the top-ranked B-School in India, followed by the IIMs in Ahmedabad, Calcutta, Lukhnow and Indore, of the list of Management College in the NIRF India Rankings 2019. Last year there were 4 IIMs in 10 top MBA Colleges in India, this year 6 IIMs have made it in the list of 10 top Management Institutes of India.
Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) regains its first spot from IIM Ahmedabad after 2 years continuing the tussle between the two top-ranking management schools. Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) slipped to the second spot after being on the top for two years in a row in the management category of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2019.
The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry’s framework of ranking national institutes has stepped in its fourth year. The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind announced the NIRF Ranking 2019 on Monday, April 08, at New Delhi. The NIRF rankings have been released for a total of 9 categories – Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture and Law.
In the management category or the B-school category, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore has taken over the IIM-Ahmedabad and followed by IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, IIM Indore as the top 5 B-Schools of India. Reacting to the top spot in NIRF 2019 Ranking, IIM Bangalore Director G Raghuram said, “This is due to the efforts of the IIM-B faculty and staff — both current and former, past Leadership, the Board, Students and Alumni, and the supporting eco-system.”
The Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) has jumped three points from 10th rank last year to 7th position this year. IIM Indore has made it to directly to the fifth rank while it was not even in the top 10 in 2018.

The NIRF Ranking 2019 methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a core committee set up by MHRD. The NIRF rankings access education institutes on several parameters broadly cover Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity and Perception. This is the fourth year of NIRF, it was launched in 2015.
